The Chateau de Varennes is located in the South-Eastern part of Burgundy (mid-way from Paris and the French Riviera). It is conveniently located 15 minutes from the motorway and can be easily reached from all international airports. Please bear in mind that the property is privatized very often and thus cannot be visited without a prior appointment.

Please note that the name of our street has just changed. It is now 2 rue de Bourgogne – 71270 Varennes sur le Doubs (sometimes listed as Varenne or Charette-Varennes in a few GPS systems – not to be confused with other villages also named Varennes but having another postal code). Google maps and a few sat nav systems may have kept the former address (2 grande rue)

A detailed itinerary can be downloaded here (make sure you put the right postal code 71270 on your sat nav) :

There is a bakery outside the gates of the estate and many food stores/farms/supermarkets/churches nearby (e.g. in Pierre de Bresse and Seurre). The nearest big city is Beaune famous for its wineries and “Hospices” (a sumptuous medieval museum). Besides the gorgeous vineyard landscapes, other beautiful areas are also within easy reach including Chalon sur Saone, Dole, Louhans, Dijon, Arc et Senan (World Heritage Monument) and the Jura mountains. Chalon, Dole and Dijon are worth a day trip each as they feature charming medieval districts with beautiful old buildings very similar to “Le Marais” in the heart of Paris.

It is recommended to contact us for securing your transfers because local cab drivers will usually not take bookings from foreigners (very few speak fluent English and there were too many no shows or last minute cancellations in the past). For the car rental, you can contact directly companies like Hertz, Avis, Europcar.

CABS, TAXIS & SHUTTLES TO / FROM CHATEAU

For short trips (Charette, Ciel, Lays, Mervans, Pierre de Bresse, Seurre, Verdun sur le Doubs), here is a list of local cab companies to contact directly : Taxi list_info_Varennes

For longer journeys (Beaune, Chalon, Dijon, Dole, Geneva/Lyon airports, Paris etc), we recommend to book a shuttle, please send us a message to info@chateaudevarennes.fr with the number of passengers and date/time of the trip (as soon as possible otherwise the negotiated rates cannot be guaranteed). An indicative price list is featured below for shuttles up to 8 passengers but it may depend on the date (week or week-end or bank holiday) and time of the day. Otherwise you can also contact the cab drivers directly (but expect the cost to be higher than with the chateau shuttle).

Picking up a cab at the airport or train station can be feasible but there may be no cab upon your time of arrival thus it is safer to book a shuttle in advance. Rather than a train+cab journey, we recommend door to door shuttles or coaches for long distance trips (Paris, Lyon, Geneva, etc). It will be more convenient (and cheaper for groups of 3+ passengers). Please contact us via our contact form for larger groups or other destinations.

See below an indicative price list for the chateau shuttles but these rates can vary with date/time (this is for day-time and week-day, there is a surcharge for night-time and week-ends/bank holidays) or if we do not find an available company at this rate (better to book early if you want to guarantee the best price). You can send us an email through our contact form
